  1. Hi

Im using Vdub to try to join 2 avi files together but when i try i get this messege **Cannot append segment : The audio streams have different data formats **

I then use Gspot to see what the specs of the avi's are :

    AVI-1
    Video spec:
    Aspect - 640 x 272 (2.353 : 1)
    Bitrate - 956 kb/s
    Audio spec:
    ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc"
    Bitrate - 384 kb/s (76/ch x 5 ch)
    Fs - 48000 Hz

    AVI-2
    Video spec:
    Aspect - 640 x 272 (2.353 : 1)
    Bitrate - 1250 kb/s
    Audio spec:
    ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc"
    Bitrate - 384 kb/s (76/ch x 5 ch)
    Fs - 48000 Hz

Can any1 help me with this pls so I can successfully join them up ?

    Thanks
    Bry.

  2. hi
A (somewhat stupid) way to stop worrying about those wav files is saving both .wav files using "save wav" inside vdub and join them in a wav editing program like soundforge or wavelab.

in vdub again, join both avi files without audio with "direct stream copy" option under video menu. (save those avi w/o audio if necessary...)

than again open the joined (w/o audio) avi and choose your joined wav file in audio menu.

    just save your final avi.

hope u' ll not ended with the second avi part without audio sync.

  3. hello
I did all that with no problems and finally put the joined avi and joined audio back into 1 AVI file which was huge (2.5Gb). This is no problem at all and I can continue with what I need to do from this info but Im a little curious about the AC3 side of things. I extracted the wav using Vdub but its not a true wav file and will not be opened by SoundForge, ok been here before no problemo, changed the file extensions to .ac3 and then used ac3 fix to check for bad frames in the audio, non found, opened with headache and converted to proper .wav file. This file is considerably larger than the extracted wav file but no matter, I did same for AVI-2 and then used SoundForge to join them together and save out 1 .wav file. Now the final sound is PCM audio, how would I have got the AC3 sound back instead of it being PCM audio in final 2.5Gb AVI

    Cheers

  4. Take the two .ac3 files extracted using virtualdub direct stream copy and on the command line type "copy /b file1.ac3+file2.ac3 file3.ac3".

Now take file3.ac3, fix it wit ac3fix and you should have one large continous ac3 file for you to use as you please!

  5. Thanks for that helping cmd line, worked a treat

If I wanted to use Vdub to remix the ac3 back into the now joined avi file that has no audio is this possible ? I did breifly try by changing the ac3 extension back to wav but Vdub wont allow it as it says its an invaild wav file?

Any more little tips would be appreciated

    Thanks again

    Bry..

  6. I found a version of Virtual dubAC3 in my archive of tools, simply added the .wav file, then followed the settings in the readme with VdubAc3 and saved it as a normal AVi and it works perfectly. Now if I need to store on 2 cd roms i can easily chop it in half and re join it whenever needs be without all that added hassle..........thanks for the help in learning a new trick

  7. Nice,
Better learn by trying than by simply following any "old" detour. We always learn something new at the end. trying, sharing and colecting new tricks.

    cheers
