  1. Does anyone know the settings I would need to use to capture
SVCD Complient video from a ATI All In Wonder 128 card? Can this even be done using the V7.1 ATI Software? Do I have to import the video in AVI format and then convert it to SVCD format?

  2. Here is my experience :

I setup MMC 7.1 for MPEG2 capture, at 352x288 (PAL), AUdio 44.1khZ, 224kbits/s, Motion estimation 90%, Visual masking on, Video Bitrate 2MB/S.
Once captured, I demux the mpeg2 file (use BBTools, TmpgEnc, M2Edit or whatever tool you like), remux it (this is needed to make it compliant with SVCD standards, although this is not a "genuine" SVCD I'm building here).

I then use Nero to burn the SVCD anf it plays on my Tokai 715 standalone player without any problems.

This is not a true SVCD (resolution should be 480x576 in PAL), but I can tell you the resulting quality is really good (at least good enough for me).

    Hope this helps.

  3. I setup MMC 7.1 to capture in 2mb/s VBR in 352x480( I can't make MMC7.1 to do 480x480 )in Win98SE.
The result is as good as VHS or 8mm can go.
There is a lot monkey to do this :
    * Need to hack the register file.
    * Need to start MMC7.1 with a NTSC capture at least once before SVCD capture to prevent freeze up.
    * Need to use TMPGenc to touch up the buffer setup of the mpeg2 file.
    * Need to use Fix12c.exe to touch up the H and V setting in the mpeg file.
    * Need to turn off Nero SVCD compliant toburn.

** But IT PLAY GREAT on my standalone player.

*** ATI should fix these problem, user want SVCD, man.

I capture 480x480 in 98se. I don't quite understand why you do most of what you list here. I generally capture at 2.5+mps for CBR and occasionally 3.1+mps for VBR. I guess my questions are:

    * why can't you capture at 480x480?
    * what does the registry hack do? I don't hack the registry for mpeg2.
    * I do a 3-4 second capture with the VCD default settings prior to an mpeg2 capture. This does seem to eliminate any freezing with mpeg2.
    * Using TMPGEnc to touch up the buffer? I don't know what you mean here. I don't do this.
    * Fix12c? I don't use this either. It's probably needed because of the DVD player you have.
    * I also turn off Nero compliancy.

    My approach is the following:

    1. capture
    2. edit
    3. demux/mux to an SVCD stream.
    4. burn

    That's it. Very simple.

  5. On the ATI-AIW128 480x480 is not even an option.
How do you managed to capture at that resolution ?
If you are using a different card, then the procedures will be different.

  6. So ur saying it's not listed as the capture option. I've install fresh, with no hacks and it's an option on my machine.

Have you uninstalled/reinstalled and upgraded with mmc version on ati website??

  8. Thats odd I have an ATI AIW 128 and I'm pretty sure I can cap at 480X480. I havn't touched the reg or done anything. I'll check when I get home, and find out what version of mmc i'm using.
