I burn some SVCD movies converted with TMPGenc, VirtualDub, DVD2Avi, etc...
and I have always a perfect movie but I see little jerk some 5 seconds ?? I try all solutions but I always have this little jerk ?
What's the problem ?
I make all SVCD to 25 fps, Non-interlaced, DC 10 bits (for smooth ?) and after I make a multiplexing with BBMpeg and the converted MP2 sound created under tooLame ?
1) It's a framerate problem ? The sound also must be converted to 25 fps ?
2) It's possible to create a SVCD with TMPGenc and 29.997 fps (let to NTSC by default) and play on my Pioneer 444 ? (but I think it's not a standard ?)
3) There are some options on TMPGenc that I forget ?
Excuse me for my bad English, I'm french
Thanks for all
David

Your field order is incorrect. Click on the advanced tab in TMPGenc and change the field order. In the future you can check which field order to use. Double-click on the de-interlace filter. Under method select even-odd field. now scroll through the movie. If it looks ok then your field order is correct. If you see the movie jumping around then you need to change your field order.
Yes it is possible to convert to 29.97 and it is compliant but the extra frames per second use up your bitrate decreasing the quality of the picture. If possible you should always keep your svcds at 23.976 (ntsc-film.) -
On a different route but related, I have similar issues with A/B field dominance and I'm sure there is something a little deeper.
I've posted into the Delphi WinTV-PVR at
http://www.delphi.com/wintvpvr/messages/?msg=134.4
with a similar problem.
Any comments.
I'd love to experiment with field ordering in the MPEG2 stream.

Dear Adam,
You mean 'Advanced Tab' -> 'Field Order' comboBox and switch between 'Top Field First (field A)' or 'Bottom Field First (field B)' ?
It's important ?
And second I must to see if picture is good with the de-interlace filter ?
The picture is always perfect, it's during the movie, I see all 5 seconds a jerk ?
This option filter de-interlace correct this jerk ?
Thanks

Yes, switch between field A and field B. Yes this is very important, if your field order is wrong your movie will be unuseable. Your movie is interlaced. Each frame is made up of two fields, basically they are like puzzle pieces which fit together. If they are put in the wrong order then you get those jerks you are seeing.
The de-interlace filter does not correct this, it doesnt actually do anything to the movie. Its just a trick that lets you scroll through each field one by one. This makes it very easy to tell whether your field order is correct or not. Use the de-interlace filter to decide which field order you need, but dont forget to uncheck the filter when your done. -

Maybe the work 'jerk' isn't appropirate. I'm french, don't forget.
I mean, my player plays my SVCD movie smoothly, but after 5 seconds, I have a litlle and short stop (very short), after the movie plays smoothly and after 5 seconds it's begin again, a little short stop and always during the movie, that's continue ??? I don't know the word: it's jerk ?
It's not very annoying but I want to have a perfect smoothly movie.
Thanks for help

Yes jerk is the right word to use and yes this can be caused by setting the wrong field order.
If you encoded with the wrong field order set then your svcd will play smoothly for about 5 secs, then pause and jump back a frame or two and then continue playing and it will keep repeating this over and over again. Trust me, just try changing the field order in TMPGenc and re-encode a sample of your movie. Burn it and test it it will probably play fine.
