  1. Hey all,

Just installed Panther. Overall, seems faster. In the first of what will undoubtably be many glitches, I've noticed that my old version of Toast 5 is no longer supported.
How can I best burn DVDs until I've saved up for Toast 6? MMB? Firestarter? Finder? Something else I've overlooked?
    Thanks for any suggestions....

Toast 5 is supported, I used Toast 5.2.1. How did you install Panther? Almost everyone who merely upgraded (rather than archive-and-install, or clean install) is having problems.

  3. So strange.

I did a clean install of Panther and Toast 5.2.1. But Toast still doesn't work. The icon just bounces for a minute and disappears. The program won't load.

Anybody have any ideas on how I might either get Toast to work or bypass Toast altogether?

There MUST be another program out there which will burn DVDs....

    Dragon Burn comes to mind.....

likewise, so will Disk Utility (however ive noticed that on some machines disk utility doesnt realize a dvd-r to be 4.4 gigs, instead it only shows 4.2 free (a drawback yes, but it does work!)

  5. Ah....but Dragon Burn is commercial software. If I were going to buy Dragon, I'd get Toast. I need a freeware or shareware substitute for now at least.

    Anybody know of one?

  6. Just use DVDImager to make a compliant UDF image and the version of DiskCopy you have in your utilities folder to burn.

you can use the disk burner built in to the OS
just set your preferences to make it so when a dvd is inserted to OPEN FINDER, it will mount a empty dvd to your desktop
drag the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders into this disk, and when you eject your trash will change to burn icon.

the problem with this is ive noticed it DOES NOT give you a full 4.4 gigs its more like 4.24 gigs

try it and see what happens for you, maybe yours will say 4.4 avaliable
otherwise, if you dont care about those 200 megs it will work nicely.
(this is assuming your dvd burner is your default burner and supports iApps)
