  1. Does anyone know if you can connect a standalone dvd recorder to a PC and use it as an external dvd burner?

  2. I don't think so.

  3. DVD Recorders with firewire only accept DV AVI signal from your computer. As for data, see Don Pedro's comment.

I do this all the time with my Sharp dvd recorder and my Sony PC. I record a tv show onto DVD-RW on the Sharp, then firewire from the Sharp into the Sony using Premiere capture (Motion Capture works too), edit out the commercials, then firewire back into the Sharp onto a DVD-R. Works great. Might not work on other PCs.
    To air is human.

I know it has been tested with the older Panasonic machines and does not work. That Sharp sounds interesting though.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

You can't use it as "use it as an external dvd burner". Are you able to copy your files from PC on DVD ? I don't think so.
