  1. I bought an LG GMA-4020B. I burnt a few movies on dvd-rw's but they will not erase (even the supplied Maxell dvd-rw disk won't erase). I have tried everything I could think of...returning the LG for another in case I had a defective one...reformatting the hardrive...installing the lastest programs (Nero 6, DVDinfo, etc). Nothing seems to work. DVDinfo says it has erased it even though it isn't, Nero gives me an 'internal target failure' when it tries. I've tried quick erase and long erase. To burn the movies I used dvdshrink and clonedvd.

I think it might have to do with either my bios settings, incompatible motherboard or incompatible IDE cable? I don't have a problem doing cd-rw's...just dvd-rw's. I've tried Princo and Ritek dvd-rw's as well and still get the same problem...

Anyone else have this kinda problem and know how to fix it?

I had the same problem with the same writer, but Memorex DVD-RW, turned out to be bad media, I have had no problems erasing the DVD-RW that came with the burner. DVDinfoPro worked for me for formatting/erasing, when nothing else would even recognize the damaged media as anything let alone a DVD-video. Windows saw it as a closed 1.99GB disc, Nero saw it as a 82GB disc, and neither could open it. I can even write about 2GB of data safely to the damaged DVD-RW's with full access to the avi and mpeg2 I am storing on them(cartoons),I was going to toss them so its better than them ending up in the garbage.

  6. I figured out what it was. I burnt a small mp3 file on the dvd-rw using Nero and then erased it with Nero and had no problems. I then used dvdshrink to rip and then Nero to burn a movie and was also able to erase it with no problems. Seems the problem is burning a movie with clonedvd. I think it finalizes the disk even though its a dvd-rw no matter what. Weird...also kinda sucks cause now I've got a few discs that I can never use again.

Is there a certain movie file format that clonedvd uses that others don't that causes this problem? Anyone work with clonedvd much? Just curious...I like the program as it was easy to use...

I also originally blamed my burning software for the errors(B's clips) and bought Nero and new media(same brand) with the same result(coasters), I then tried burn4free, and burnatonce, again coasters. Finalizing the DVD-RW is not the problem, most players can not read\access a DVD that is not finalized.
I again suggest you try the erase\format option of DVDinfoPro, format(full)then a quick erase. I had to erase a couple of times but the media did erase and is recognized as an empty 4.7GB DVD-RW, and all though damaged is still safe to use for data up to about about 2GB.
