sony dvd writer

i have a sony dwu10a dual format burner but the dvd's that i write on it will only play back on my
sva d-2008 dvd player or a friend's d-1008, ive tried most other makes [a friends owns a tv/video shop] but all that comes up in these machines is no disc or bad disc, i'm using ritek dye 4X dvd-r discs but only burn at 1X. i still have the original firmware as have not been able to upgrade and i use roxio easy cd/dvd creator 6. could my writer be duff ? had it about 3 months .

I have the same burner with no problems. I can only suggest it is the burning software. Try Nero or Copy2DVD.

I don't think Riteks are for the Sony. No one I know uses them, including me on a Sony. Try some media suggested for it from a media store.
