    attempting to convert avi files to mpeg2 no video only sound
    any suggestions?

    Open the avi as video source, select "audio only" instead of "system". Go to the audio tab and configure the .mp2 output. If you want a .wav file, select file> output to file> wave file.
    If you want a .mp3 file, install a MP3 encoder like LAME, select option> enviromental setting> external tool. Check Layer-3 and browse to lame.exe. Then go to the audio tab and configure.
