Your PC will play any type of video file and there are many types out there. Your DVD player will only play disks that are DVD compliant, ie the correct type (mpeg 1 or 2), resolution (several) and file structure.

Your file may not be DVD compliant or the problem may be in how you burned it to disk or it may be that your player does not play DVD-r's.

Test your file with avicodec and report back on the file type and resolution, someone here can tell you if it's dvd compliant. If it's not, then it needs to be "converted." (See left hand column of this page.)

How did you burn your file to disk? DVD's need to be "authored." (See left hand column of this page.)

Check in the "players" section and see if your player accepts DVD-r.

    Good luck.

BTW, mentioning downloading is not going to win you friends around here.

Your Avi file needs to needs converted to an mpeg that is DVD compliant, then you need to author the disk to get the proper structure, then you can burn it to disk. You will need a bit of time and some software and you need to select a guide to use. You are starting at the very beginning and there is a bit of learning and reading for you to do. Don't get discouraged, you've come to the right place for all your AVI to DVD needs. Look in the sections on the left side of this page for more info, start at the top.

    Good luck!
