  1. Is there any way to work around the file size limit in moviestar? It will only capture about 3.7 gig into one file... then it will restart the capture in another file...

I am using moviestar 5, the dazzle dvc 150, a huge hard drive and windows xp... I thought that i could lower the bit rate to fit it all into one file, but i can not change any settings... I don't know if it is because of the dvc 150 onboard mpeg 2 encoding or the software...

i am not too keen on joining the files together... i just want to get these vhs tapes archived!!! quick... I am more than happy with the capture quality, just file size limit and lack of setting changes...

new software, and if so, what will work with the dvc 150?

    thanks in advance!!

Remember, NTFS formatted partitions (Win 2000, XP) can handle essentially unlimited file sizes, whereas FAT32 formatted partitions (Win 98/ME) has only approximately a 4GB files size limit before it needs to split to another file. If you are using Win XP, make sure the drive partition you are capturing your file to is formatted NTFS. Hope this helps.

I use a utility called TWNH 1.9.5.8 that is a 3rd party front for Moviestar 4.xx, it allows me to split my files during capture, easily adjust bitrates, timed recordings, etc... but I don't know if it will work with your Dazzle 150, I have a Dazzle DVC II. You can try it though, get it here:

  3. Hi there,

Movie Star will automatically begin a new .MPG every 4 GB (max). In the .MZL - file all created filenames are stored.
You can open this in Moviestar (and only there) which will automatically recombine the files.

    Better solution (to my opinion)
    -----------------------------------
Look for the tools "MZLMERGER" which combines all .MPG into one file (NTFS ONLY !! , will damage FAT partitions !!)
Capture with the dvxcel testutility, there is a patch to allow capturing up to 9GB into one file.
