Hi guys,
With regard to a movie clip i downloaded the other day, I found that whenever i opened it, an Internet Explorer page opened also and went to a site called www.dvdcopy.com. How did the author manage/do this? Is ti just advertising? Or is it something worse? - a malicious script for example.
Im worried that it may have affected my machine in some way.
Have any of you ever had this kind of thing? - How can I stop it? - Will I have to re-encode the movie to remove this rubbish?
thank in advance.

I can remember Security Updates for Windows Media Player from version 6.4 onwards.
Some media files can contain URLs that Windows Media Player will try to open.
I think that this 'feature' could have been exploited and various code could have been executed on the unprotected pc.
A search on Microsoft for Windows Media Player Security Update will lead you in the right direction.
Martin.
