  1. I'm trying to backup "Taken" on dvd-r's. Each original has 2 episodes on in. My version of DVD X Copy only recognizes one of the episodes. Same thing with dvd x copy xpress. Looking for a good (preferably shareware or trial) that can handle episodic dvd's well.

    Thanks in advance!

Are these dual layer or single layer discs?

If sigle layer then of course you know just to use DVD Decrypter in ISO mode to rip and burn the DVD.

If these are dual layer discs then do you want to compress each disc to a single DVD-R or do you want to split the disc so that each episode is on a seperate disc with original quality (no compressing or transcoding etc.)?

Different tools and methods to be used depending on which way you want to do it ... compress to one or split to two.

So which way would you prefer to do it?

  3. They are dual layer discs (8GB+)
So ideally I guess i need a program that will split the disc in half. I don't mind putting the disc on 2 dvd's, I just want to make sure one episode is on both dvd's.

Well if you want FREEWARE then DVD SHRINK can do this in the re-author mode but you will not have a menu but you should be able to split it so that one episode is on each disc without loss of quality.

If you want to keep the menu then you could try DVDShrink again but this time use the STILL PICTURE (or is it called STILL IMAGE) on one of the two episodes as that might otherwise give you a file size that might fit on one DVD-R without further processing.

  5. ok...got there...worked great splitting the disk.
Now how do i burn it??? I tried the new version of nero and it gave me the following error:
DVD-Video files compliance test failed. The resulting DVD-Video might be unplayable. Do you want to continue?

    What should I do?

    Thanks!

Make sure the size of the VIDEO_TS folder you are going to burn is less than 4.3GB (approximately 4480MB). If it is then you can use the classic version of ImgTool to create an ISO IMAGE file then simply use DVD DECRYPTER to BURN that ISO IMAGE file.

Go to the doom9 website and on the main page (with has daily news) you will see that a new version of ImgTool Classic was just released. Download it by CLICKING on it and there you go.

I used DVD2ONE and the quality was fine. The show uses high bitrates on the DVD9.
