    Hi all,

I'm not a 'complete' newbie, I've been ripping, decoding, burning and doing light reauthoring (DVDDecriptor, IMGtool, DXC, DVD Shrink, etc..).

Anyway, I (and a friend) have a set-top DVD recorder that creates DVD's with your standard .vob file (AC-3 audio). I use it for some TV shows, but mostly for copying my 'old' personal video tapes to DVD.

The problem I'm having is finding a retail package that will allow me to import .vob files! It's nutz! I would think that would be a no-brainer for these companies!

Sonic MyDVD 5 looks great for what I need, but again, it doesn't import .vob files.

Please... any suggestions would be great. The easier the better. I'd hate to have to demux my files, remix things, lose more video quality, etc.. If there's a guide here, I can't find what I'm looking for (don't know why). Any suggestions on what retail package I need????

    Thanks! You guys rock!

TMPGenc DVD author allows you to import dvd video or vob files.
Software has free 30 day trial.

Well... thanks, but I'm looking to use a full retail package that has templates for motion backgrounds and motion menus, etc... A program that will help me create a polished DVD production.

    I appreciate the info tho'...

    Anyone else?

    imtigger2,

I am aware of only three programs that claim to allow the import of vob files. The programs are TMPGenc DVD Author (as dlb stated), DVD-Lab, and Ulead Movie Factory 2. I only have direct experience with TMPGenc DVD Author and it does the job rather nicely. It appears to me that the one best suited for your application would be ULEAD Movie Factory 2 as it appears to be a little more user friendly. Good luck.

I don't use TMPGEnc Author, but the description in tools says it does:
    Import program video stream
    Import elemantary streams
    Import DVD-Video
    MPEG2 video
    MPEG1 video
    VCD video (no video reconverting)
    WAV/PCM audio
    MPEG1 Layer 2 audio
    AC3 5.1 audio
    AC3 Stereo/Mono audio
    Menus
    Motion menus
    Template menus
    Several tracks / separate VTS
    Chapters
    Chapter editor
    Chapter screenshot for menus
Have you taken a look? Or just dismissed it?

    DVD-Lab also takes in vobs.

Finally, I'd say why don't you just demux the vobs into their pieces? If you really like MyDVD, just demux
I mean it in the nicest way.

    Oh man... I deserved to be jumped on for this one;

I downloaded the TMPGEnc PLUS file instead of TMPGEnc DVD Author program and... well... I'm a newbie dork

    Thanks for the info guys.

I suppose I should try to demux, but just the name alone scares me (mommy?) ha! I'll assume that 'demux' is a process to separate the video and audio, doesn't that cause problems with sync? ... or are there tools that do a great job of keepin' it all together?

I know the answer: "read the guides"

Any suggestions for a demux newbie as to what program to begin with?

Thanks again, you guys are MUCH better than ANY tech support dept anywhere.

  7. Well, the word demux was a link in my prior post. It went to the FAQ section. https://www.videohelp.com/faq#demultiplex

There it tells you about demux and gives you step by step on how to do it using TMPGEnc, so you already have the right tool.

Edit: As far as sync goes, people do have problems. Many things go into this. However, if your set top burner captures everything, and you don't chop up the files, it should work. Can't say before you try... but it is a free option.

yup, just got done reading it.

We'll see what happens, cause I really do want to chop them up (remove commercials, etc...), but I figure if I bring my video and audio files into ONE program, chop 'em up there and use that output direct to DVD (or folder), then more than likely I shouldn't have sync probs.

    Thanks again. I'm jumping in!

    UPDATE:

Been working with TMPGEnc DVD Authoring and it's pretty cool!

Info mostly for Newbies trying to work with their Discs directly from their home DVD Recorders... GET THIS PROGRAM!!

If you wanna chop out commercials, tuck in a few ends here and there, create custom motion menu's and burn it all to DVD with no hassles, and no out-of-sync probs, this is it. My DVD Recorder (Sony) produces a standard DVD-R with .vob files. You just import the .ifo file and TMPGEnc loads it all up no problem at all. No need to demux or use ANY other tools. The interface requires no reading, easy to use (be sure to check ALL menu options for motion menus etc..).

If I had to complain about anything, it would be that cRazY NamE, what's up with that? What's wrong with DVD Dee-Lite or something?

Thanks again for everyones .nfo !
