Is there a way to remove a title set with ifo edit?
i know the trailers are VTS_03_0.IFO is there a way to completely remove this from the dvd structure using ifo edit?
I removed the trailers from my scary movie 2 simply by puttin a dummy VOB where the Trailers VOB was.
But i cant do this with my copy of Phone Booth because the VOB that has the trailers on also has some of the Specail Features on it..

check out my VOB ID striping guide HERE as this is what you probably need to do
it may not be that method that you need so if you open the IFO and press Copy To Clipboard and post the PGC info here. Show which bits you want removing and then I can point you to the right guides for stripping as it all depends on the structure as to which method you use
all you need to say is which parts you want removing
it will look like this, I've just cut off the rest of the crap and made the text smaller and highlighted the trailers I would want removing as an example
be very careful as to what you remove as it can undesired effects as using IfoEdit will change the VOB ID/Cell ID's of anything after the stuff you remove. So in my example VOB ID 5 would become VOB ID 3 and I would lose the original VOB ID's 5/6 as VOB ID 6 would now be VOB ID 4
PGC_1 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 1] [00:02:02.07 / 30 fps] (Programs: 5) (Cells: 5) (uses VOB-IDs: 1,2,3,4,5)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/ 1] : time: 00:00:18.10 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:00:18.10] [Frames: 550]
[Ch 02] [Pg 02] [Cell 02] [V/C Id: 2/ 1] Layer Br.: time: 00:00:33.15 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:00:51.25] [Frames: 1555]
[Ch 03] [Pg 03] [Cell 03] [V/C Id: 3/ 1] Layer Br.: time: 00:00:33.11 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:01:25.06] [Frames: 2556]
[Ch 04] [Pg 04] [Cell 04] [V/C Id: 4/ 1] Layer Br.: time: 00:00:18.16 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:01:43.22] [Frames: 3112]
[Ch 05] [Pg 05] [Cell 05] [V/C Id: 5/ 1] Layer Br.: time: 00:00:18.15 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:02:02.07] [Frames: 3667]
PGC_2 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 1] [00:00:00.15 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 6)
[Ch 06] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 6/ 1] : time: 00:00:00.15 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:00:00.15] [Frames: 15]

Hi there Mackem X
Ive just tried to follow your guide but when i removed the trailers & tried to play it dack through ifo edit it popped up 'Illegal navigation cammond'
Its the PGC_2 i would like to remove, this has the trailers
PGC_1 (program Chain_: [Title (TTN): 1] [00:28:19.00 / 25 fps] (programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/1] : time: 00:28:19.00 / 25fps [Pos: 00:28:19.00] [Frames: 42475]
PGC_2 (program Chain_: [Title (TTN): 2] [00:05:32.16 / 25 fps] (programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 2)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 2/1] : time: 00:05:32.16 / 25fps [Pos: 00:05:32.16] [Frames: 8316] -
In answer to your question, yes, you can do it in IFOedit.
I have posted here on several occasions how to do this, so a search should come up trumps, bit basically I load the VOB files into DVD2AVI to determine which CELL ID contain the bits you want to remove.
Load the first VOB file into IFOedit and select VOB EXTRAS. Strip the streams as required, and select all the cell ID's except the rogue ones, and let IFOedit recreate the VOB files into another directory. Don't forget to correct the VTS vectors etc, and away you go. -
@garryheather, he can't remove the VOB ID as it create a blank PGC entry which will not playback on some players. I cannot stress this enough as you cannot remove everything from a PGC and maintain 100% playback compatibility
this is what he gets if he strips VOB ID 2 and nothing is in the PGC
PGC_1 (program Chain_: [Title (TTN): 1] [00:28:19.00 / 25 fps] (programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/1] : time: 00:28:19.00 / 25fps [Pos: 00:28:19.00] [Frames: 42475]
PGC_2 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 1] [00:00:00.00 / 25 fps] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
@watty252, I'm, just posting this again so I can see what you want removing and I'll tell you what to do
PGC_1 (program Chain_: [Title (TTN): 1] [00:28:19.00 / 25 fps] (programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/1] : time: 00:28:19.00 / 25fps [Pos: 00:28:19.00] [Frames: 42475]
PGC_2 (program Chain_: [Title (TTN): 2] [00:05:32.16 / 25 fps] (programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 2)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 2/1] : time: 00:05:32.16 / 25fps [Pos: 00:05:32.16] [Frames: 8316]
you could use the delete playback option in IFOEdit and leave the trailer in if it doesn't use that much space but I suggest if you are shrinking to shrink this title as much as possible 1st (still pictures in DVDShrink) and delete the playback afterwards -
rather than tell you the whole process step by step, read 2COOL's guide over at DOOM9 HERE to give you an idea of what to do and I'll give you a smaller version
In VTS_03_0.IFO / VTS_PGCITI / VTS_PGC_2, I would just change the VOB ID in your Cell Position in VOB from 2 to 1 for Cell 1
Cell Position in VOB:
[0000011e] Cell_1: has VOB ID 2 [0001]
[00000121] Cell_1: has Cell ID 1 [01]
Cell Position in VOB:
[0000011e] Cell_1: has VOB ID 1 [0001]
[00000121] Cell_1: has Cell ID 1 [01]
Save the IFO to confirm changes (you can normally just change the screen within the IFO but Save it anyway). Close the IFO then reopen it and choose the VOB Extras button to strip it keeping the audio and VOB ID 1.Take the new files and modify the playback time afterwards in PGC 2 to suit either PAL or NTSC. Finally put the new files into the DVD folder. It's upto you whether you use a Get VTS after you have done this. I would on this occasion if I'd used this method
just refer to 2COOL's guide for the bits you ain't sure about
this is what it will look like afterwards
PGC_1 (program Chain_: [Title (TTN): 1] [00:28:19.00 / 25 fps] (programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/1] : time: 00:28:19.00 / 25fps [Pos: 00:28:19.00] [Frames: 42475]
PGC_2 (program Chain_: [Title (TTN): 2] [00:05:32.16 / 25 fps] (programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 2)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/1] : time: 00:00:00.12 / 25 fps [Pos: 00:00:00.12] [Frames: 12]]
there are a few methods you can use really so its all down to choice really as this method is longer than the delete plaback method but this strips the VOB so this method is better suited to removing a lot more than just a trailer if you ain't that fussed about leaving the trailer VOB intact and just modifying the IFO -
Thank you mackem X
i tried just deleting the play back but once again it came up that 'illegal naigation cammond'
I've had i read through that 2 cool guide but it hasn't sunk in yet...
i'll let you know how i get on with it.
Cheers Mackem -
in simpler terms all you are doing is changing the reference for the trailer in PGC2 to the same as PGC1 and when you use IFOEdit it uses this reference and only keeps VOB ID1 and drops VOB ID2 as it is not mentioned. You then change the playback time for PGC2 as its now an exact copy of PGC1 but you don't want it to play for the same length
regarding Delete playback, the quickest method ain't necessarily the best when it comes to stripping DVD's, the best is one that work's no matter what player you use
anyway let me know how it goes or if you get lost anywhere -
MackemX - IFOedit rebuilds the VOB's if you do it in the manner I described - I am not suggesting just hacking out part of the disc and hoping for the best !
The original poster may still like to give my method a try - he did ask about using IFOedit to achieve his ends, and it works perfectly for me and I've got one of the most tempramental players on the planet. My method is quick, easy, and to date, has a 100% success rate on all my target players. It won't hurt the original poster to give it a try, and Derrow seems to know what he's doing.

Hello there Mackem X thank you so much for the help, i've just gettin rid of all the trailers thanks to you & that Guide from 2 cool
As you said its a lot to take in when you first read it all.
But Quit Simple if you know what you are doing.
One more Q tho mackem X every time i've used that Get VTS Secters, it always comes up when trying to view the dvd 'illegal navigation command' whats with that happening?
Thank you Mackem X -
@watty252, it's no problem regarding the help
the illegal navigation command means something isn't right in the IFO's. I can't see how using GET VTS has anything to do with it, I've never had that problem so I can't suggest anything

some players will just continue by playing the next thing they come across or returning to where they came if they come across these entries but that's the chance you take
it's well known that InstantCopy will not accept these removal methods as it comes up with the List Out Of Bounds error, so that's why I came up with the fix to overcome it and I now suggest to anyone removing stuff that you leave the entries intact to ensure 100% DVD playback on any player
the methods in some of my guides and 2COOL's are tried and tested to the limits to ensure the best method of retaining playback at all time no matter what you play them in and I can't see them getting all that much easier than they are now. There are much easier and faster ways to remove stuff from a DVD, you just have to look at my InstantCopy Guides and see how quick it is to hack a DVD to pieces and I don't even touch the VOB's. Using the dirty IFO hack method along with IC as the processing tool created DVD's that played fine on my standalone and all done changing a few values. I do know the IFO's ain't 100% compliant but as long as it plays in my player I'm happy
if it works fine for you on your player using Ifoedit as you say then fine as I know that method works just fine on mine also, but it doesn't mean it works on all players. One thing to remember is that if you ever replace your player (upgrade or replace broken one) and discover the replacment doesn't play your backups, you will have to do them all again, so why not do it right in the first place
cheers -
I had a problem with these Illegal navigation problems.
Turns out my dummy vobs are fine if burnt with Nero. If I use Tmpgenc DVD author, I get errors with the dummy vobs. Although not with all of them, only the remote selectable ones. Any vobs which are auto navigated by the player work fine.
