avi file and spruceup question

I have spruceup and use it to author when I make backups.
I have a .avi file that I took from my camcorder. I tried to load it into spruceup but nothing happens. What do I need to do to make the .avi work in spruceup so I can add the chapters and burn to dvd?

Spruce up is a DVD authoring program, not an encoder. It will not encode your avi to a DVD compliant format. Read some guides on format conversion, select a tool and method which suits you from all the available info then come back and ask for more help when you get stuck.
