I understand that the comparison is like comparing a whale and a guppy, but the question I have is relative to quality of output.
Can it be said that the biggest difference between the two is the amount of creative control one has over the final product?
While you can do nearly everything you want with Vegas Video, you must use a few canned features in Screenblast....yes?
The important difference for me (right now) is will there be a marked difference in the image quality on a burned DVD?
thanks

I'm pretty sure that Screenblast is the same as Sonic Foundry's Video Factory (the entry-level version of Vegas).
You should either download a demo, or look for a review that compares the two - it may be that Vegas is overkill for what you want to do, or you may find that Screenblast is underpowered, or too Wizard & Template- driven to get the results you want.
the only way to know is to try them out.- housepig

Housepig,
I certainly would do that, only there isn't a demo!

screenblast has a few more features than video factory, but there is no demo I know of (then again its only 99$) ...

sorry, I saw the "product demo" button and thought it was for a download, not for a Flash demo....

Soooooo, back to the original question: Am I giving up mainly creative control if I go with Screenblast.....or image quality as well?
Thanks -
creative control -- there is BASICLY little difference in quality ..
some diff. is in image resizing and there is no super sampling
- but mostly you get the same overall quality .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
BJ_M,
Thanks very much! I was hoping for that answer. As a raw newbie, I want to begin to create DVDs from old analog tapes, but the process seems very complicated.
I need a tool that will give me as much image quality as possible, but at this point the more flexible the application the more difficult it will be to learn and use.......
Is there anything else that I should have asked? Like is Screenblast a good product? -
yes --- it is very good .. and it is extremly stable program ...
