Yeah but I bet they will be the Special edition... no thanks. Still cool for everyone else though.

Big deal I've had the original star wars trilogy dvds made from film print master copies for years (since my buddy works for lucas film) so even if they were available for 5 bucks I would'nt purchase them since ive had them for so many years lol

And I hope we get more behind the scenes/making of/bonus stuff then we did with the Indiana Jones DVDs."Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgment."

great. finally. it'll be the special editons, but it's better (barely) than nothing.
-
At least they will be done professionally, from originals, re-mastered with true 5.1 sound, and cleaned up... They should look/sound pretty good, especially if they are being done by the same company that did the IJ movies.

Is this the same George Lucus that was reported as saying he would release the Star Wars series when 1 million DVD players were sold, then 5 million
and then reported as saying that he was never going to release them untill the technology was up to his standards?
Sorry George, I will believe you when I see it in the store shelves. And depending on what you do to it and how you "modify it " I still may not buy it. I still have the wide screen video tapes that I can enjoy. :P
-
Now I'm sorta glad I did buy that LD set from a garage sale for a mere $10CAD per movie. Makes me wonder why I should shell out more $$ for a modified version that doesn't have the charm of the original films??
-
George must up used up all his money for Episode III and needs to get urgent cash.
Still, I'm glad that the original and the best will be released on DVD before I die.
Poor old George, he can write a grest story, produce a great film but he cannot Direct a movie for nuts. You can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead -
I still think that he should of handed over the duties of directing to his good friend Steven Spielberg.
-
remember, this is just the start of the great cash grab. These will be "ordinary" editions. Perhaps to be foillowed next year bya special edition and then the year after by the collectors edition (with added figurine). followed by a special extended edition with another film. Oh boy, he sees you suckas running towards him, drooling, with your bucks rolled up in your hands. Or am I being too cynical .?
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.

I have an old original Star Wars photo story book from around the time the movie was originallly released in theaters. In it there is pictures of a scene where Luke and Wedge are walking and talking in the desert, discussing if Luke should leave the farm. This was also in the original book by George Lucas. This will probably be an added bonus scene for the new DVDs. I wish I would have kept that book in good condition, because it would be worth something nowadays.
-P.S. If this missing scene was included in Star Wars Special Edition released on VHS a few years ago, I am sorry, I only watched the movie half asleep and do not remember this scene. -

I, for one, will not believe any of this until I see it posted somewhere else besides Aint-It-Cool, or credited to AICN.
This press summit took place on Nov. 5th and no other media outlet has reported this yet. Even Harry (AICN creator) has not validated this, as he was supposed to be there.
Likewise, even if a release is coming next year, I don't for a minute believe that it will be the original versions. Lucas wouldn't let an original print be shown in LA recently, so why release these versions he discredits.
As much as I'd love for this story to be true, my Laser Disc to DVD conversions will have to suffice until I hear it from another source.------------------------------------------------

If this is true, and Fox does discontinue the Episode I and II DVDs, then that might just mean that the original trilogy is coming to DVD..."Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgment."

nice to hear their coming out, but according to a rumor that was going around not that long ago, Lucas is NOT going to be releasing the original versions of the films as he considered them "unfinished". So if they do get the dvd treatment, more then likely they will be some sort of special editions and for that reason im glad i put my laserdisc versions onto dvd.
-
Well its good to see that the Original Trilogy is coming to DVD. People have been waiting for these since the format was first released, so hey beggers cant be choosy. The flicks are Lucas' and his alone so people shouldnt give him a bunch of crap for releasing them the way he wants.
The real movies will probably will be released at a different time so. Its better than no SW dvds at all -
