SmartRipper shouldn't have any affect on the sound quality of your .vob files. Don't want to jumo to conclusions, but it could just be dirty DVD's or even a dirty laser in your DVD drive. You might think of giving the laser a cleaning. If you smoke it can get a film built up pretty fast which can cause serious read problems in some cases.

I do know there are cleaning CD's available. I just do it whenever I open my case & open up the drive, use a Q-tip & Alchohol. I guess it depends on if you're willing to open up your drive or not as to which method you want to use.

Also check the DVD's themeselves before you rip them. Fingerprints & dust & smears all have an affect on the error correction. If your drive has poor error correction this COULD be your problem.
