speed up/slow down vcd playback

I have a weird problem that i am hoping someone has an answer to. When converting from divx to vcd I use virtualdub to create an audio file and then encode with tmpgenc using standard NTSC vcd templates. The files play very well on my computer. When i burn the files with nero, however, they play weird on my standalone (apex 500W with modchip). At first the video and audio are very good and are in perfecdt sync. After a while, and not always in the same place, the video seems to speed up for a second and then slow down to let the audio catch up. While this happens the audio and video are out of sync for a few seconds and then fight their way back into sync. This happens several times throughout each movie. I have tried de and then remux with bbmpeg but the problems still occur--any ideas?? Thanks in advance for any help.

this happens to me if i create a low bitrate VCD with a framerate of 23.97fps (FILM). seems like those lower bitrate VCDs (1000kbps video bitrate and lower) play more smoothly on my standalone if i create them using a 29.97fps framerate instead.

i have the same problem
about video speeding up to cach sound every 2-5 minutes
I 'm still looking for an answer but
I think a NTSC conversion problem from a PAL source
or vice versa .
Maybe the CQ_VBR from Sefy is the problem because
when i use 2 pass VBR , the speed up or slow down is gone

Thanks yall-i used standard NTSC (29.97 fps) and 2 pass vbr and it took care of the problem. Thanks again for the hints

I have this same problem whenever i play any standard VCD on my APEX703, or any CBR XVCD. I found that making my XVCD 2passVBR solves the problem, but there seems to be no way to solve it with standard VCD. As a side, my sony player plays the same VCD with no problems at all. My APEX seems to play every SVCD i make perfectly.

i had the same problem with my Philips CDI 470 (with original VCD card) and a few hongkong bootleg pressings
everything fine with my dvd player though (Shinco 86
