  1. I just replaced my old DVD burner with a new SONY DRU-510A. I thought I would be able to burn DVD+R at 4X but Nero only offers me 2.4X.

There are setting in Nero, there are a couple of programs that are in my Nero folder, and I have the DSS (drive speed select) program that I had to fill out a very long survery to get from the Nero site. How do I go about using all this to get the most out of my DRU-510A?

  3. Fujifilm DVD+R 4.7 GB/Go 120min

How do I check the speed for this media? It's not on the label or disk.

(added moments later) I checked the DVD media ratings here at DVDRhelp.com and it listed Fujifilm DVD+R at 2.4 so I guess that explains it.

Do I have to check all media that way or will the 4X ones say something on the label?

    By the way, Thanks

Fuji is one of those who doesn't label their package. Dunb. Sometimes you'll see some reference to a 2.0 standard in fine writing. I have not seen any 4x Fuji media on the shelves here in major stores in US yet. Memorex, TDK and Sony do label thier package.

You should download DVDInfoPro and use it to check the media ID and see what write stratregies are on the disk. Then you won't have to come to this website and check. Of course, that is if you already *have* the disks at home. If you haven't bought them yet, then by all means check here first before you buy.
Even if the disk has a 4X write strategy, which yours does not, the DRU-510A will slow down to 2X and not write at 4X if it detects that the quality of the disk will not allow it.
