  1. I was having some fun capturing in wmv (and so have a lot of hours of capturing time....)

high quality is not really needed...

but the files are a bit too long, so I wanted to edit them a bit with adobe premiere pro

I can view them fine but when I put them on the timeline the audio is out of sync...

any idea how this happens ?

I don't think it's a problem related on the performance of my pc (P4 hyper threading 2.4 GHz, 1024 MB DUAl DDR)

    thanx a lot

    Greetings

  2. A guess but here goes.

The latest versions of WMV allows for variable frame rates. Premier doesn't. So when you import your variable frame rate video into Premier, it assumes each frame is the same length. This changes the overall playing time of the video. As the audio is a fixed playing time, the two no longer match, hence loss of sync.

Variable Framerate is similiar to the VBR issues with MP3 audio. It's a first class Biatch to edit a VFT WMV file. Try ASF tools and see if it will force the issue and convert it to a fixed rate AVI.

Capturing to WMV isn't reccomended. You have much better luck with a lossless codec and AVI. You can then make a WMV after editing where the VFR can really help.

  4. thanks for your replies !

    I will try asftools
but this isn't the best way if I do it again...

which codec would you recommend ? (it's just to have some fun recording directly on the hard drive and then take a few samples of it and encode the edited one into wmv to play on a website) so high quality isn't a must...

In that case try capturing using divx, it should edit fine and should not have the same problems.

With wmv capturing-mpeg4 v3 codec works well-audio sync problems crop up with variable bit rate
You have a powerful enough PC- capture to mpeg2 and then encode to wmv
