  1. I've used them both..and actually..used them both recently..and I can't see any difference in terms of quality. As far as appearance...the Silver disks don't have the name "OPTODISC" on top..while the Gold disks do.

The Gold disks also have lines so you can write the title and/or date and description. Both disks are excellent.

There are apparently two different kinds of Optodisc...some are good, some are bad. Supposedly the gold tops are the good ones. Check this thread:

  3. The way I understood that thread is that the bad kind is a knockoff named Optodisk. The 2 types of Optodisc are fine.

  4. exactly...that's what LordSmurf meant with the Optodiscs....there are no problems with the silver optodiscs...and I can assure you that the 4x silver and Gold Topped optodiscs are virtually identical in terms of quality. However, I have NOT used any of the 1x Opto's..so I can not comment on whether or not the quality of the 1x disks is lower in quality then the 4x disks. I've read it both ways...but the 4x disks are excellent.

I used about 200 1x golds when they first came out, and the quality was great. Just too slow for me. Glad they brought out the 4x ones. I really don't see any differences in them. Great competitor to keep Ritek prices down.

I did use a handful of 1x silvers, and those were horrid.

Maybe the silver 4x and gold 4x are the same these days? Don't know.

Most Definitely. That must be it...it must be the 1x silver and 4x silver/gold are different with the 1x silvers being lower in quality. I've read this before with the 1x silvers. The 4x silver/gold do have a different media ID...but i've had the same exact results with both...EXCELLENT BURNS.
