I've downloaded a file from Creative for my sound card. It is Creative SB Live, the file is LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe.

I was trying to update the audio drivers as the orginal is 4 years old. Creative's program just won't work including Audio HQ and an error came up telling me the drivers need to install. Creative's sound program and it's drivers are now removed.

The computer was still using Microsoft's sound drivers already installed in the system and conflicting with Creative's programs. Microsoft's default WDM drivers for SB Live remained there and they can't work with the new programs including the mixer.

I know the only way is to delete all of Microsoft's audio drivers for SB Live and then re-install Creative SB Live!

I'm not going to worry about doing any further as the sound won't be any better anyway. There is a saying, "If ok, then don't fix it". The sound is now back as it was and the downloaded file from Creative is deleted.

Did anyone have this experience? Did you resolve this problem? Is there a better way? Thanks

Did you try Windows update ? I used to use Win2k before I upgraded to Win2k3 server and I thought all the drivers were updated by update.

Nothing there, the latest I got is 1999. I even tried Microsoft's Download Center and nothing there as well. Microsoft doesn't update every driver in the computer.

This was why I got the file from Creative and they are the problem with the installation. They just won't work.

Well, I guess the next step would be to E-mail Creative support and see if they could help . It couldn't hurt.

I've e-mailed them for help and I don't think this would help as I got info that my sound card maybe too old for the new installation and not compatible.

I don't really know as I suspect with this message below that this maybe the case:

    • Older Sound Blaster Live! Experience demo applications may not work properly when updated with the LiveDrvUni-Pack.

Windows Update for Drivers has Never worked for me. Generally I have to spend hours undoing what was broken. I have users that try and be clever and break there boxes downlaoding motherboard or video updates via Update.

Yes, you are right and too much work to fix for nothing.

The sound won't be any better and a new 5.1 surround sound card is the real solution.

I'm not going worry about doing it any more as a waste of time.

I got a reply from Creative. This is to confirm the above is the only way to fix the problem of Microsoft's default WDM drivers that are in the system stopping me having Creative's drivers installed.

Too much work and I don't want to upset the computer and better to leave as is. No more for now. A new sound card is a better solution.

If I remember rightly, I had a Dell system with the SB live card running under 2K with no problems.

But, the creative driver site is a pile of poo - I installed XP Pro on my new PC and downloaded the creative drivers for my Audigy card. On running the installer, it couldn't find the card! Lucky I kept the driver disk.......

    Have you tried www.driverguide.com ?
    Regards,

    Rob
