I'm looking to buy either the Sony Vaio RS430G (includes Gigapocket software and analog capture card) or the RS420. Both have firewire input. I want to convert VHS and 8mm analog tapes to DVD, and am wondering whether to go with the the 430G or with the 420 plus a highly rated A/D conversion device like the Canopus ADVC-100 for the video input. I realize that I would need to get video editing and AVI-to-MPEG conversion software if I go the second route and that integration would be somewhat more complex.
Does anyone know of any issues with image or audio quality, poor audio/visual sync, or dropped frames using the GigaPocket system? I don't care too much about the TV tuner aspect, so that's a non-issue.
Part of the reason I ask is that there are some great deals on the 420, but more importantly I want to ensure high quality DVDs from my analog tapes. But, I also want to keep things relatively simple.
thanks,
Paul
