  1. Im using avi to vcd/svcd/dvd converter

but for some reason when i convert to vcd the mpg created file doesnt have any audio and the file size is even less than the avi file, in the past the new mpg file has been alot bigger

    What can be causing this?

You don't think it worked, and it takes too long? How can you be sure, and can you tell what happened? And if you do not have the patience to do extended encodings (several hours or so), please let me know as well.
    Hello.

Since you've given few details about your encoding method I can only speculate....

    Regarding the audio problem:
The avi has bad frames maybe or you don't have the necessary audio codec. Scan for bad frames with Virtualdub and get Gspot from the Tools section and test your file.
You might need to create a wav file and use that as the audio source.

Regarding the length of your file:
The size of the file is determined by the bitrate of the encoder (bits per second) and the length of the clip, that's it. The size of the avi is not relevant.

I recommend the following programs: VirtualDub and Tmpgenc. First extract the audio and then put it in tmpgenc. If you're worried about it "taking long", just leave it overnight and tmpgenc has an option that you can click which lets you shutdown right afer the encoding is done. Here's a guide that shows in detail how to do what I just said. The last part uses vcdeasy to burn but you can use whatever you have(nero or whatever). Good luck.
