Whenever I try to copy files from CD to disk mostly or sometimes write files on to CD my system restarts in the middle and I get a lot of coasters. After two such restarts the copying will be successful the third time. I am unable to find the reason. Can any one help me? My system is AMD 2000+ XP, MSI KT4V board, 256MB DDR Ram, 40GB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm HDD, Asus CRW-4816A 48/16/48 cd-RW drive and Nero ver 5 was given along with this drive.

Normally when this kind of thing happens I find that one of 3 things has occurred:
1) There was some kind of catastrophic failure on the machines part. Windows will tell you it recovered just fine, but it probably did not.
2) You have a virus and it's playing havoc with your system.
3) You have a driver or device conflict and the machine handles this by wither locking up or re-booting.
One option to resolve is to upgrade all the drivers for al your devices to the newest versions.
Another is to wipe out the machine, format the hard drive and the master boot record and re-instal from scratch with the newest drivers.
I've found with Windows that generaly the best nedicine is to clear out the machine and start over. Upgrading from one OS to another is generally more pain than it's worth. Also, Windows is not the most clean/efficient OS and it tends to leave a lot of junk lying around itself and eventually trips over it and can't get out of it's own way.
