  1. hi there.

    Ive got this problem:

I want to convert a movie to vcd and fit it to the size of 1 80min. cd-r.

The movie is 86 mins and 40 secs but i want it to burned onto 1 cd-r. because the audio isn't that important for that movie (*g* know what i mean...) so i decided to use an audio bitrate of 112kbps and a video bitrate of 1140 kbps (i've calculated this rates with the AVI/(S)(X)VCD calculator by tz and tmpgenc's project wizard - both mentioned the encoded mpeg to fit 1 80min cd-r).

The bitrate calculator showed the audio file to be about 70 mb and the video file to be about 707mb, about 780mb together that should fit the 80 min cd-r.

but after muxxing both streams the mpg had a size of 863 mb - too much for my cd-r. the happens if i encode a program stream.

i never had this problems with svcd (note: here i wanted to create a vcd).

    have you guys any suggestions?

    thanx
    chris

What is the resolution? Remember 352 x 240 pixels for NTSC VCD.

  3. oh yeah, i forgot about that... the resolution is PAL -> 352*288

Alright, you are OK. You need to go a bit more consevative than the bit rate calc is telling you. I have learned this over time. What is your audio?
    mp2?

It sounds like you choosed MPEG-1 VCD under System->Stream Type and then it doesn't matter what bitrate you choose. VCD is about 10MB/minute=86min=860MB.

Try remultiplex the mpeg with MPEG-1 VCD (non standard) and it should be smaller. Or you may have to encode again but with MPEG-1 VCD(non standard) settings.

  6. Also a few older versons have TMPGenc had a bug and encoded ALL MPEG1 encodes at 1150kbit/s (VCD standard) reguardless of what you set. Also note that the resolution has NO effect of the size of the encoded MPEG. Neither does the resolution of the source or size of the source.

The only thing that affects MPEG size is bitrate and source runtime.

  7. hi people!

    thanks for your help.

my audio is 112kbps .mp2. the last night i also had this idea to mux the video and audio files as vcd non-standard. the result: a program stream of 787 mb size. so i thought: thats great, it will fit my 80 min cd-r. but as well nero 5.5 as vcdeasy (in combination with blindwrite) told me the file to be too large for my cd-r. the strange thing: i encoded the same movie as mpeg-2 (svcd) with the same bitrates (112 audio, 1140 video) -> the muxxed mpeg is the same size (what should it else be, it's the same bitrates). strangely this .mpg can be burned with no problems.

might it be that vcdeasy and nero create vcd ALWAYS with 10mb/min, and if so which tool could i use to author and burn the mpeg-1 file?

  8. hi there.

i tried to use another authoring progra, for preparing the movie to burned - vcdwizard. when it was creating the .bin/.cue files it showed the following information:

    changed volume label to '030921_1217'
    changed publisher id to '.'
    adding pbc 'PlayList' (play-movie)
    scanning sequence #0, F:\DVD Ripping\Projekte\check2.mpg
mpeg stream will be padded on the fly -- hope that's ok for you!
autopadding requires to insert additional 111294516 zero bytes into MPEG stream (due to 403241 unaligned packets of 403242 total)

    added sequence #00...
generated image (403767 sectors [89:43.42]) may not fit on 80min CDRs (360000 sectors)
    >>> use a 90min CDR for this image.

    writing track 1 (ISO9660)...
    writing track 2, MPEG1, PAL SIF (352x288/25fps), audio[0]: l2/44.1kHz/112kbps/stereo

...finished ok, image created with 403767 sectors [89:43.42]

interesting is the highlightened info: inserts something into the mpg-stream (about 110 mb data additionally). this 110mb data is about that size my .bin files are too large for my 80min cd-rs and its that amount of data i saved by using the bitrate of 1140 instead of 1150.

so might it be that most programs fill this 10kbps up to keep the standard? and if so is there a possibility to solve that problem?

    greetings

I remember having a similar problem when I first started - are you using TMPGenc to mux the audio & video?

I never found out what the problem was, but i solved it by using BBMpeg to perform the muxing.

  11. hi there!

i tried to use bbmpeg but the result was the same: it added that certain amount of data. so i question myself: is it possible to author a vcd with less than 1150 kbps for video?

It's possible. I do it all the time as KVCD. Actually, if you checkout KVCD you may solve your problems with a template. You can get impressive increases in quality by going VBR, peak at 1800 and average to match the size you need.

If the app is adding data, then it's forcing the complience issue. You do NOT want to do this.

When you go to burn this, you HAVE to turn complience off, or it won't burn (Nero will try to re-encode it for you).

Can you snip the opening or ending credits? You said you weren't too worried about sound, sooooo........

  13. thanx for your answer. i'll try the kvcd templates this night. but anyway.. in nero i turned standard compliance off and though my .mpg was only about 785 mb nero told me my cd-r (80 min) isn't large enough.

however.. i will see what the templates can do for me.

  14. so i tried the kvcd template... the movie is now only about 465 mb large and fits on a 80 min cd-r. but how can i increase the quality in that way, that the movie will exactly fit?

    greetings
