Ok so I've NEVER actually used or encoded anything to Divx. How hard would it be to reencode a movie file to be compaitible with the new version of Divx instead of the one its in?

Also is that Dr Divx program good for conversions? CAuse if it will do other file types to divx I'll just buy it and be done with it.

I realize these are stupid questions coming from a Mod, but I'm a little out of element here.

well... I don't use Dr Divx so I hesitiated, but..

as long as you have the codec, it's as easy - or hard - as encoding any other avi - Huffy, etc. :c)

Just choose it in Virtualdub - play with settings - you're good to go. :c)

I just DLed the latest version today. It must be pretty recent.

    PS - the codecs free

  5. Converting compressed files of one type to compressed file of another type isn't all that good of an idea (I shouldn't need to explain any further). It can be done, but it's going to take 2-3 (or more) X 'time' than just converting a plain o'le AVI to DivX. Try it and you'll see what I mean.

I think everyone here should try DivX at least a few times. You'll be surprised how much quality that codec can retain with such a small file size and bitrate. You can put a big old movie on a CDR and it will look nice.

    Good luck.

There's a list of guides here: https://www.videohelp.com/convert#13 , but depends what you're going to do with divx.

Best place to learn about Divx is: http://www.divx.com
