  1. Has anybody else heard of this yet? According to cdfreaks.com, Sonic has released v. 6 of it's software. Can't find anything at Sonic.com though...

  5. I agree with you Red Lion so I thought I would try to make sense of it all:
RecordNow DX is bundled with writers and PC's,isn't for retail sale and is a neutered version of RNM and will now be sold as RN 6 Standard($29.99).
RecordNow Max 4.5 was originally made by Veritas and marketed by Stomp.
When Sonic bought Veritas in 12/02 they let Stomp continue to sell RNM but now the party is over and Sonic is rebadging RNM 4.5 to RN 6 Deluxe($49.99).

I'm nagging, I know, but the application was orignally made by Prassi before being sold to Veritas, then to Sonic...

Big differences between DX and MAX - MAX has mp3 encoding, DX does not. MAX can handle 8 burners at the same time (I think), DX only handles 2... That's about as much as I can remember.

  9. I forgot about Prassi .
I think RNM 4.5 can handle 64 writers at the same time.

Funny thing with all this stomp/sonic crap is if you actually view the details of a burned disk using RNM...it will show up as "PRASSI." You can use a tool like DVDINFOpro to check it. I'm sure dx will also show as "PRASSI." They're all one in the same for the most part...but Max does have some benefits over dx.

I am one of the suckers who purchased Record Now, the product with the worst tech support in the business and the most limited functionality of any burner on the market. I guess for thge 1 or 2 features that it does, it does ok. For me, I found it to be a great coaster maker.
    Several items.
    1. In conversations with Stomp tech support people, I was told that Stomp and Veritas were always struggling to get along and the reason it had so few upgrades and additional fewatures was because they did not get along. A lot of fustration there.

    2. Stomp is consistent in giving the worst customer support in the business. They have not mentioned a word about this on their web site, or are answering questions about it in their forum. 4.5 is the latest, still.

    3. Sonic took owership of the product in Dec 2002. Here are some links on the Sonic end and one very interesting one on the Sonic site.
http://www.sonic.com/products/recordnow/recordnow/default.asp Page for Sonic Record Now 6.5

    4. Page for Sonic Record Now Deluxe version 6.5. http://www.sonic.com/products/recordnow/deluxe/default.asp

    5. Free upgrade the engine for Record Now, BUT NOT for version 4.5. For version 6.0, 5.0 and DX/Max 4.6 http://support.sonic.com/Downloads/engine.asp

    6. Want upgrades and to find out about what to do after being "Stomped" on by Stomp ? Here a page for Sonic Support of RecordNow Max. They tell you to go back to Stomp. http://www.sonic.com/support/dmd.asp

    You'd better use VCR then....

RecordNow Max/DX is a program that doesn't require tech support.
    Because it works.

And don't get me wrong, I use Nero too

  13. @ Jolo..you are pretty much on an island with your experience with Record Now. Seems like it's all customer service related issues you've had. Not sure why you'd need customer service anyway, as the burn proggy as extremely easy to acclimate to and the help file is great.

And as far as the one link you posted regarding the "engine" update for Record NOW MAX 4.6 ...well that caught my attention because there wasn't ever a RecordNow Max 4.6. There is a "DX" 4.6. I figured the engine update was just some gimmick by Sonic...and I was pretty sure it was the same engine update as the one Stomp had. Sure enough..when I went to the link you posted at "SONICS" site...the d/l showed as "408" in the file name...which is the LATEST engine for all RecordNow products.

I then went to STOMPS site..clicked on the link for their latest engine "408" update..and it took me to "SONICS" site. So either Sonic doesn't know their products...or they are just trying to get people to purchase RECORD NOW 6. It's just a gimmick..if you are an owner of RNM 4.5 you can download it from Sonic's site and it will upgrade the burn engine fine.

  14. defense is right.
This pxEngine update was the same even three months ago.
Look at the Products, Dates and the Version numbers.
And its for ANY RecordNow, Prassi, BackupMyPC, ......etc

    Anyone see PRASSI 2.0?

It says SONIC right in it now!

    more importantly..anyone use it?
I thought prassi was great but couldn't use it with the DRU-500 (sony)
now it'll recognize the A06 so i'll bet it does the Sony too!

Obviously, 99.9999999999% of the people who have posted to the RecordNowMax forum must use only VCRs as well.

Great product, except for most of us who have gave up on it a long time ago. But like I said, it is "beginnerware", and they tried to be "idiotproofware", and use only the front end to do very simple tasks.

I have been trying to help out people on their forum for years since Stomp never answers anyone.

I especially liked it when people were going nuts about it not working with the Sony DVD writer.

It is WAY to limited for a serious user.

Yes, it looks like Sonic wants to go with it, make it a real product, but get money to do it and will not be giving upgrades to the poor suckers who got the product from Stomp. I think you can say thank you to Stomp for that one as well, negotiatiating a deal to help us out.

Besides the calls on the error 0 or error 10 or whatever I had to make a call where I got mailed the code for all of the error messages. Most of my early communications with Stomp were about, "where is the ..." because I could not believe that it did not have some basic functionality. That is when I got to know some of the guys where we had the discusssions about the fustration with Veritas and how they can't do anything, just recommend things to Veritas and they did not care.

But the market place has taken care of that, no one gives a crap about it and Sonic is working to have it included with DVD and CD burners.

I have had at least 10 time when I had RecordNow stop in the middle of, or at 99% of a burn and give me a cryptic message. 100% of those times, I take a CD of the same brand I used before, then moved it to Nero, Feurio, or some other burner and watch it burnd with no problems.

A common experience for those who have contacted Stomp or who have posted on Stomp and had their posting "allowed" to be posted. But that is another subject. They have updated their forum and don't do what they did before.
