  1. Huffyyuv codec not being recognized by virtualdub. (quick comment: did forum search, nothing helped).

Tried their instructions time and time again from the one's listed here to try and get Huffyuv not only unzipped/installed but also picked up by virtdub.

Downloaded both their 32K source code as well as the 15K prebuilt DLL. Unzipped them to just about every folder I could think of, even unzipped it into the c:\windows\system folder or whatever that was. On times I got "can't find DLL" file I redirected zip file to that location and then it ends. Also tried unzipping the DLL file to the system folder, tried unzipping the DLL file to the inside of the source C++ prebuilt folder, etc.

Apparently it does install because the window closes (even though it doesn't say "finished") and secondly when I go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS each time it does remove it, so it must be there?

But VirtualDub doesn't recognize it? It's strange, because on my old harddrive I got the exact same version of VirtDub (2.5.x) to recognize it but not on here (??). Any help appreciated. Anything thanks!!

Just unzipping the dll is not enough. When you unzip the files you will see a file with an .inf extension. (If you have extensions shown). The type of the file in exporer should be "Setup Information". Right click to this file and select "Install" from the pop-up menu. That should do it.

You will not see the codec in Add-Remove programs, because it is not setup by an installer adding information to the appropriate sections in the registry. However, once installed you should see the codec in Control Panel, System, Hardware, Multimedia, Video Codecs.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. Oh actually I did do that right-click and "install" option you mentioned.

Update, actually when I load VirtualDub at the first screen (pre-capture mode, the one for AVI file editing) and look under "Compression" indeed the Huffyyuv has been 'installed.' However, when I go into "capture mode" and look under the video codecs, it is NOWHERE to be found..

Any help on that one?? Thanks.

  5. Hey, yes I tried uninstalling and reinstalling HUFFyuv, also uninstalled and reinstalled Virtdub, also tried rebooting the computer and most all of those combinations. But like I said apparently the Huffyuv is showing up in the first page of Virtdub (the section for loading/editing AVI's) but when I go into "capture AVI" mode, it cannot be found as a codec (nor listed at all). Right now I am trying Huffyuv 2.1.1 but I also tried their older versions (1.3.5 or whichever it was they listed on their page). Nothing works. Any help, thanks!!

This whole time I knew it was just one simple selection somewhere, especially since I did a whole forum search and couldn't find anything I knew there must have been one thing I forgot/didn't see. Ugh ... Thanks again!!..
