  1. I am encoding dozens of AVI files with DIVX at very high quality but each one is going to take around 14 hours to complete.

Is there any software that can save the progress of the encoding which will allow me to power down the computer and power back up to resume encoding?

    Cheers.

TMPGEnc. Set up your encode, save the template. Begin your encode, stop when you want. Note where the encoded video has ended. Load the source video again if it is not already loaded. Load your saved template. Go to Settings-->Advanced tab-->Source Range. Set the start frame where your finished video ended. Select the end frame. Select OK. Rename the end file, to keep from having to redo your previous video. Start your encode to continue where you left off.

Repeat until all your videos have been compiled. Since you used the same template, you should have no problems merging them.

  3. I had that idea too. But the problem is in Source Range they show the number of frames as if it is a 30fps movie. But I'm encoding at 23.976fps, so the frame where I stopped will not be the same as in the frame in the Source Range. Any other ideas?

Sure. AviSynth. Use its script's Trim function to tell TMPGEnc exactly which frame to start encoding from.
