  1. I just purchased a KWorld V-Stream DV/AV Expert card (it uses the Conexant CX23883 chipset) to capture my Hi-8 videos to MPEG in realtime. I plan to burn these old videos to DVD with a little bit of editing.

I had been using the Pinnacle Studio AV (DC10) card with no problems except that it only captures in motion jpeg and the capture files were huge and rendering takes forever.

When I plugged my camcorder into the new VStream card (S-Video), I noticed a horizontal line at the very bottom of the preview screen. Below that line were one or two scan lines from the top of the image. In another words, it looks like the horizontal sync is slightly off. The same lines appear in the captured video as well.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, moving the card to a different PCI slot and using different capture software but the lines remain.

Any ideas what is going on or how to fix it? Do you think the lines will appear on a TV playing the DVD (i.e. will overscan make the problem irrelevant)?

Thanks in advance from a newbee.

  2. It should play fine on your TV. TV video is overscanned. About 5-8% of the picture is cut off by the TV. For analog sources you'll often find these lines at the bottom of captures, they do not show up when played back on the TV.

  3. You could use TMPGEnc->Settings->Clip Source, but you will have to reencode.

  4. If you clip it, then play it back on your TV it will just overscan that image and you'll lose even more picture. Unless you plan to only play back the video on your PC (Divx/xvid) just leave it alone.

Thank you. You were correct. With the overscan, I cannot see the artifact at all.

Unfortunately, however, the quality of the image sucks compared to the quality of the image I captured with the DC10 card. I've posted a new topic covering that. Hopefully, I figure out a way to improve the image quality.
