    Hi,
    I have (and like) Ulead Video Studio 6 as it does everything I need for creating my home vids EXCEPT I now shoot in 16:9 Anamorphic which is does not handle and I do not want the expense / complexity of Media Studio Pro. Ideally I would like something like VS6 that handles mix and match of source aspect ratios (eg 16:9 vid, 4:3 pics etc) and outputs complient 16:9. Any suggetions?

  2. Basically, no software cares if movie is anamorphic or not. The only difference is the existence of black bars.
    So, I think there's no software can't handle anamorphic video. Maybe there are some can't handle 16:9, but I don't know any.

  3. It's all in how you author (and encode) the video. You encode to maitain the 16:9 DAR at 720x480, and then author with a program that can flag the video at 16:9. TMPGenc or CCE can do the encoding. Authoring wise I know that Maestro, Scenarist, Reel DVD, Encore, DVD Lab and TMPG DVD Author can. IFOEdit can change the flag from 4:3 to 16:9 if need be too.

    Thanks - the issue is working with multiple source Aspect Ratio's on your time line. Eg Media Studio Pro allows you to view/edit the 16:9 video stream in the correct AR, overlay say a 4:3 picture or title etc in it's correct AR then allow you to reder the whole lot as 16:9. In this way you get both teh 4:3 picture and the 16:9 source both appearing correctly.

    Media Studio Pro does all of this well, but I just don't need the high end product apart from this feature, and was hoping some of the simpler apps like Video Studio now supports this properly.

    Thanks

  5. I used to use Premere 6.5, and have also done quite a bit of testing with MSP7 and Vegas 4. But what I truly love editing with is Edition 5.1, soon to be Liquid Edition 5.5. I no longer have to wait for rendering, it's realtime without any special hardware. Background rendering is wonderful.

    For a less expensive program, I would hold out for Studio 9 which has been rumored to be coming out in the coming months. Pinnacle is good about adding meaningful features, and 16x9 has been requested a lot.

    Hi Jmone,

    I have the current version of Ulead VideoStudio (version 7.0).

    I've noted that - with version 7.0 - one can activate ADVANCED MPEG encoding options.

    Perhaps this technique might work to enable the options in Ulead VideoStudio version 6.0.

    On my Windows XP computer...

    1. I clicked MY COMPUTER;

    2. I clicked C: drive;

    3. I clicked the DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS folder;

    4. At this point, I clicked on the MY COMPUTER 'tools' menu and then clicked on FOLDER OPTIONS;

    5. I then clicked on the VIEW tab;

    6. I then ticked the option to SHOW HIDDEN FILES & FOLDERS;

    7. I then clicked the ALL USERS folder and then the APPLICATION DATA folder;

    8. I then clicked on the ULEAD SYSTEMS folder;

    9. I then clicked on the ULEAD VIDEO STUDIO folder and then the 7.0 folder;

    10. I clicked on the UVS i-n-i file and typed Advance=1 under the [VIODRIVER] heading and saved;

    11. Finally, I closed and then re-opened the Ulead VideoStudio 7.0;

    12. Now - when I click SHARE > CREATE VIDEO FILE > CUSTOM - I can click the OPTIONS button and there is a new ADVANCE button under the COMPRESSION tab.

    This ADVANCE MPEG encoding button opens up a whole new range of MPEG encoding options, including 16:9 aspect ratio settings.

    There is a zipped, PDF file MainConcept document that explains all of the ADVANCED settings.

    That zipped PDF is available for download here:

    http://digitalvideo.8m.net/mc-adv-doc.zip

    I suspect this method will work with version 6 of VideoStudio as that program uses the same MPEG.Now codec that was developed by Ulead from the MainConcept SDK.

    Hope this helps,

  7. I use maestro for all my home videos shot in anamophic. I edit them in studio, convert them in tmpenc and then author them in maestro. You just set the clip for 16x9. They all turned out anamorphic and looking great.

  8. Anamorphic video has the same resolution 720x480 as the normal DV video. As far as the video editing software concerns, it does not matter except you can see that people are taller and slimmer.
    When you author to DVD , make sure you select 16:9.

    I have a quick question for shooting with a consumer level mini dv cam in 16:9. I have a few option in my camera menu for shooting widescreen. One of these options is stretched. This option makes the video appear long on the cameras lcd screen. Would this turn into true anamorphic video when I captured it to a computer? The other options are for hard encoding black bars I think.
