  1. I have a large file I am spitting into two using Virtual Dub. So I set my start and end points at the beginning and middle and saved 1 file. Then I set my start point at the middle and end point at the end to save the second half. However, the audio on the second file is way off. Anyone know how this happens or how to correct it??? I am a newbie and would appreciate any assistance.

Do you get a VBR warning when you open the file? Is the Audio AC3? Look under File>File information and post what it says for audio type.

  3. The file should be okay because the first half works fine. It is only when I try to save a second file for the second half of the film that the synch gets off. I looked at file information but it doesn't say anything about type. It tells me sampling rate, channels, precision, # of frames, etc but no option for type.. It does say MPEG layer 3 codec for compression. Any thoughts? I certainly appreciate the help!

  4. Good call on VBR error. I didn't realize it comes up when I open the original avi file. It says it detecs an improper audio encoding and it will rewrite with standard values which can introduce 32138 ms of skew. It says, if this is not acceptable to do this other whole decompress to a sav file etc. Is this hopeless for someone like me? I know a little but have no clue what to do with this one...

    Yep, MP3

    Try this
save the audio as wav (if it will)
    then do Audio->Wav audio
then check sync in several places

    then save it again

  6. you need to open the avi in virtualdub and then convert the audio to wav.

this is how you do it :

1 -open the avi and select the audio tab.
2 - in the audio tab select "full processing mode"
3 - in the audio tab select "compression" and select "no compression pcm"
4 - select the "file" tab and "save wav" (choose a name for the wav file)
what you end up with is a BIG wav file.

5 - now open the avi file AGAIN
6 - select the "audio" tab and "wav audio"
now you need to point it to the wav file that you just created.

7 - cut the movie as you wanted

i think the audio will be ok this time.
if you need more help - post again.

  7. For splitting large AVI files, I recommend NanDub. It is much easier to use and can deal with VBR MP3 audio......

  8. You are ALL terrific. I converted the audio to .wav format and it worked perfectly. I am so impressed. Many times, you get a bunch of jack-holes who make you feel like an idiot for not knowing things. You have been very helpful and I appreciate it.
