Can anyone confirm that the Ricoh 5240a for sale on NewEgg allows changing bitsettings?

    Thx!

This drive was kindly donated by Ricoh Japan who were extrememly helpful to me, they listened and responded swiftly to request for modifications to firmware that I requested to benefit users. The quality of its burns have been very high and very compatible with all readers tested. I can give nothing but praise for this drive, its fast and very reliable. I especially like its 4x +RW speed which I use for backup. 4x +RW is very rare, but Ricoh were kind enough to include a spindle with the drive. DVDInfoPro source code is backed up to this media and drive daily, which shows my faith in this unit. This drive would be my second choice behind the Pioneer 106, but only because a dual format suits my purpose better.

    Pros.
    Consistent quality burns.
Compatible with all +R/RW media tried.
All media seen at correct speed and always burns at correct speed.
Ability to 'bitset' for added compatibility with older readers.
Very reasonably priced units, one of the cheapest available.
    Burns DVD+RW at 4x.

    Cons
Single format DVD+R/RW only (may not be a con for some users)
Web site very basic, firmware updates very difficult to find.

    Recommendation
    Very high
