  1. I've installed a brand new LG 4040B DVD burner. In my system, I also have a standard DVD Rom drive.

Backing up data to DVD+R disks seems to be no problem at all. I've burned about 7 data disks so far trouble free.

I've taken a DVD+R full of MP3s (burned as data) and have played it on my standalone GE DVD player.

Then I decided to back up a DVD.

DVDXCopy Express seemed to work flawlessly, and told me that the burn was successful. The burned DVD+R will not play in either of my computer DVD drives, and will not play in my GE player either. All three drives do not even recognize the disk. Using Windows explorer is fruitless. It's like the files don't exist.

For Plan B, I extracted the files from the commerial DVD to my hard drive using DVDShrink, and burned them to DVD+R using CopytoDVD. CopytoDVD said that the burn was successful, but YET AGAIN, all three DVD drives can't see the disks.

I'm going mad, and have actually shed a tear over this.

  6. The ripped DVD plays great from my hard drive using PowerDVD.

Why it won't play from the "Sucessfully burned DVD" is what's killing me. I

As I said before, Windows Explorer won't even let me look at the disk .

  7. I'm using E3Works DVD+Rs.

So far I've made 8 great perfect data DVDs, and 4 coaster DVD movies.

A DVD IS a data DVD.
If you have a DVD file set on your computer
in a VIDEO_TS folder , just burn that as DATA and see what happens

Okay FOO, I'll give that a go. I was under the impression that a DVD had special formatting.

I'll burn it data (back in half an hour

  10. It may be your media. Look up your writer in the writer section on the left. Others have rated your media with "mixed" and "poor" compatibility. Try using better media for DVD videos.

  11. I damn near fell of my chair....it worked!

Burning the files as data in a VIDEO_TS folder was the answer.

Why did the other burned DVDs not work? Well, I guess it really doesn't matter now eh?

    Thanks FOO

  13. For DVD5 backups I recommend using DVD Decrypter:

    1. Choose "Mode | ISO - Read" and rip an ISO image of the DVD to your HD.

    2. Choose "Mode | ISO - Write" select the image file and burn.

Very simple and 100% fool proof way to get a 1:1 copy. For DVD9 discs see the guides to the left under DVD Rip. Popular choices include: DVD Shrink (freeware), DVD2One and InstantCopy. Even thou these programs can rip, I strongly suggest ripping the DVD to the HD first with either DVD Decrypter or smartripper.

It may very well still be your drive and media. There's no reason that the output shouldn't work when burnt as DVD Video by CopyToDVD. But then again, why am I not surprised?
