  1. Are there any tools for the Macintosh to covert .avi files to dvd format which will be playable on a standalone player? There are quite a few for windows but I have been unable to find any for Mac OS X. Any leads would be appreciated.

  2. Try using the new Toast Titanium 6, with it you can take an AVI file and put it on dvd, svcd, or vcd. I've been playing with it and so far, extremely impressed.

  4. Thanks, Beegebug. Will try Toast 6.
Zerosix, have done a search and found nothing so far.

Thanks for the help guys. Will let you know if Toast 6 works with this file.

  5. Tried Toast 6 but a window popped up to say that a required plugin for Quicktime was not installed nor available to open this particular file, and, even though it showed up in the Toast window, could not be converted.
    Thanks anyway, guys.

    dont give up yet!
By any chance do you have dvd studio pro installed? If so you have mpeg2 export option of Quicktime Pro.

Thus you want to do a .avi to .mov (so you get sound when opening the .avi in quicktime) then export to mpeg2.

Then you can mux the audio and build the dvd image.

or there are other ways, ffmpegx is one that comes to mind

  7. I do not hve DVDSP. I will try out ffmpegx however, and report back. Thanks.

I have found that nearly all .avi files that won't play with Quicktime can be converted to a .mov file using DivX Dr. This file then plays fine in Quicktime. This may also inable Toast 6 to except the file for converting to DVD. FFmpegx also seems happy with .mov files. Best of luck

  9. I've just used DivX Doctor to convert my avi file to .mov. Quicktime still will not play it. I then tried to use Toast 6 to convert it to dvd, but got a message that the file was too large to hold on a blank dvd-r (4.6 Gigs). I am now going to try ffmepgx on the .mov file to see if it can help me. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  10. Yes there is an app on Mac You can use...

  11. Make sure you have either the 3ivx http://www.3ivx.com/download/index.html or Divx http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/ codecs installed on your machine. Many avis use these codecs.
