    Hey guys,

I downloaded a video file which stated that it was in a DVD format. However upon extraction I discovered it was a 2GB MPG file. I have been burning DVDs for only for a short while now and have never come across this. Usually it is either in an ISO, VOB or IFO format.

Anyway, my question is this: Could this still be a DVD? And if so, what software do I use to burn it to DVD? I currently use DVD Decrypter and Nero 6.0 for burning DVDs, but they do not seem to be able to recognize the MPG file as a proper DVD file.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You have an mpeg2 file (mpeg DVD).

You cannot just import that file into Nero and burn it as a DVD. You will first need to get a DVD authoring program like Ulead DVD Workshop and import the mpeg file into it. DVD workshop will then create the VOBs and IFOs that can be used to burn in Nero, or you can just burn from DVD Workshop.

  3. What cplevel42 said is correct. If you want a free program to convert this to VOBS etc, try Ifoedit.
