  1. Does anyone know why I can't export a .mov file in Quicktime to a
mpeg-2 file even if I have DVD studio Pro installed? I am running OS X.2 and DVD SP 1.5. I have Quicktime 6.2. Do I need to upgrade to Quicktime Pro? I thought I was suposed to be able to use the export function if i has DVD SP installed.

Are there any easier ways of doing it?

  3. You should post a new question in the Mac forum section in this site. They're very helpful folks there and will tell you everything you need to know.

I'm amazed that Apple won't throw in a 20 dollar mpeg decoder with your 500 dollar DVD Studio Pro program, but apparently you have to pay them another 20 bucks to get the mpeg decoder for Quicktime. And even then you will not be able to export mpeg audio.

But the people in Mac forum here have figured out ways to make it all work.

MPEG-2 export does come with DVDSP. As does Quicktime Pro. Even our upgrade boxes at work contains the added software.

  5. The DVD Studio Pro manual said that the export option should be available but for some reason it's not.

I also tried converting to mpeg-2 from a .mov in Terran Cleaner, but it created a .mpg file not recognizable by DVDSP?

    I'm totaly confused

DVD Studio Pro accepts only elementary (demultiplexed) streams.

If the installer didnt place the MPEG-2 encoder in the right place, I think you can find the encoder component on the CD and manually place it in the QuickTime folder in Application Support (or wherever it needs to go). I did it that way.

    It should be located in

    /library/QuickTime/

    it will becalled QTMPEGExport.component

If its not there, your install didnt run properly, and you can
    1. reinstall it
    2. do as AntnyMD says and manually pull the QTMPEGExport.component from the cd to that location.

I suspect something may have happened during the install. No biggie, just pop the cd in and drag it to the path above.

Then, ensure you have QUICKTIME PRO, not normal quicktime, and when you do, just go to FILE/EXPORT (command+4) and choose MPEG-2 from the pulldown menu when it says EXPORT. You also have options on quality and what not with the options key.

    hope that helps ya some.

  8. I went home and found that the Quicktime Export component wasn't in my Quicktime folder, so I reinstalled DVD studio pro and it finally appeared. So I ran Quicktime and still no export function. I finally realized that my problem was that I never registered my quicktime Pro or entered the key that came with the program. Anyway, I'm up and running now, thanks for all the help.
