  1. Hello, I have a problem.

    It seems that any Mpeg-2 file I make causes a crash of the aprt of the system that tried to open it. In fact, it is not even neccessary to open the file. Just opening the folder containing the file causes the folder window to crash and stop responding, and I have to ctrl-alt-delete. This makes maniulation of these files very difficult indeed.

    Please help! If it has anything to do with installed codecs, is there any way to remove all my codecs to do with mpeg 2 and reinstall ones that work?

    Cheers.

    What program did you use to try to run it, and have you tried more than one program?

  3. Would you happen to be running Windows XP? I've had a similar problem whenever I would click onto or try to play any MPG2 files on my machine.

    Someone suggested it was Windows trying to preview the file. I am not sure, since the problem has since gone away by itself. But it was around for about 4 or 5 months I figure.

  4. I have had success with using programs to run it - Cyberlink's PowerDVD runs it fine, as long as I don't have the folder open for too long. You see, it's not opening the file that causes the crash. It's just having the folder open that contains it! All i have to do is get to the folder, and it crashes!

    Someone please help me find a fix! Some way of removing all codecs associated with MPEG2 or something, and reinstall them.

    And yes, I am running XP.

  5. Yea sounds like the OS trying to preview/thumbnail it.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

  6. So, if it sounds like XP trying to preview or thumbnail the MPEG2 is causing the crash, what can i do to stop this?

  8. Fixed it! Used DXMan to remove all codecs that looked like they had anything at all to do with MPEG-2 and then reinstalled Cyberlink's PowerDVD to put a proper MPEG-2 codec on there. Worked a treat, system seems faster when handling MPEG-2 files as an added result.
