i recently upgraded to windows xp pro, with service pack 1.before the upgrade,i could capture and convert video files with no problems.after i upgraded, i ran into problems.im using a dazzle dvc 80 to capture with.i know it is not the best, but it works for my purposes.or did anyway.

i reinstalled the software for the dazzle device.i tried to open moviestar to see if it would work.i opened moviestar and it immediately closed on me.i tried directshow capture version 2.6 and got an error message."cannot create audio capture filter". i DID see the video playing.i clicked on the audio tab and then dazzle dvc 80 audio (2),then it closed on me.same results with vidcap32.
i also tried virtualdub version 1.4.7...saw the video.clicked on video/compression and got an error window. "access violation". and then it crashed.
i then tried avi_io.i could also see the video.i clicked on video/settings/compression, and avi_io closed.so, i was thinking that i cant use dazzle device anymore.

i opened tmpgenc and tried to convert some files on my hard drive.i opened a movie clip. i opened file/output to file/avi file.the "save as" box came up.i clicked on the video setting tab .the compression box came up.i saw only 5 of the video codecs listed.i have a bunch of codecs.cant see them listed there.i did a video conversion using the ms video codec 1, and the audio set to PCM, 11.025 kHz, 8 bit, mono.the result was a clip that was garbage quality.the video looked really bad and i had no audio.

can someone point out what i am doing wrong????all of this worked great under win 98 se.now,it doesnt work.what happened to my codecs in tmpgenc??in control panel/sounds and audio devices/hardware/video codecs/properties/video codecs properties i see all my codecs listed.so that tells me that they are still on the computer.why is this not working right??

thanx in advance for any help you can provide.

i installed a few more codecs.i tried capturing with avi_io......that didnt work.i tried virtual dub also.the video was ok.the audio started out extremely fast and then stopped.the video kept playing though.with directshow capture,i got no audio at all.
also, when i convert from an mpg file,(with tmpgenc) to avi, i get no audio.
do i need a different sound card??
im thinking about formatting my computer and install win xp fresh.

    this is frustrating.
