  1. Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me because this is really starting to get frustrating.

I bought a dvd200i a few days ago and when it arrived and I had installed it the computer recognizes it as a dvd200j. It still says 200i on the front and everything else seams to match up.

The main problem is I'm trying to upgrade the firmware to 1.51 but it isn't allowing me to do it. It can't read the 200j to update firmware!!!!

HP firmware install programs do not work nor does the region free firmware patch work installed via Rflash. It rejects it all.

    Can someone please help? Thanks.

  2. I've not heard of the 200j, sounds fishy. There's a 215i... Regardless, I recommend that you do NOT install the 1.51 firmware update unless you are currently experiencing problems with the drive (which you did not indicate). I have the 200i and I've had nothing but problems since I installed the firmware update. Unless you have problems DON'T UPDATE!

Good recommendation, I second that. If it ain't broke, don't jack with it.

  4. The "j" is nothing to worry about. I have this same drive and it was recognized as a 200j by Windows XP.

Hi, If you do not have any problem with your drive It’s not recommended to upgrade the firmware, but if at the end you decide the upgrade (like I did) you may want to upgrade to the latest 1.64 Firmware for Ricoh 5125 type (2.4xDVD+RW/+R) burners. Many burners sold by SONY, MEMOREX, HP, AOPEN and others fall in this categories.

I upgraded my 200i to the latest Ricoh 5125 firmware and everything is working great.

If you are interested follow the next guide:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/174580.php

you could use this guide to flah the HP200i to 1.51 RPC1 firmware.

If you decice to continue using your current firmware (RPC2) you could try DVD region free to watch movies from any region without trouble. Look this utility at http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm

  6. One reason to update the firmware to 1.51 is that you can use 4x media. It will still write at 2.4x.
