Sorry if this it a little long winded....but i have a few issues that I hope people on here can help with....

I d/l an .avi file which is excellent DVD quality...but if i try and play it in PowerDVD there is no sound....this I can overcome by extracting the audio into a .wav file using Goldwave...but for some reason when i try to load the wav and avi into TMPGenc and encode into an mpg, TMPGenc throws up faults in Kernel32.dll. I have tried to increase the environmental settings, but still no joy

I have tried converting the .wav to mp2 then converting the video to m1v...but again tmpgenc throws up several faults....I guess this is probably more to do with my system than the actual files. I have tried reinstalling tmpgenc from different sources , but still no joy...

Is there any hope?? Does anyone know of another program that is as good as tmpgenc, maybe it just doesn't like my system

I am running a fairly basic system using Win98se and have the lastest codec packs installed.

If you need any more info please ask.....and thanks in advance for your help
Don't ask me, I know nothing - but there's a helluva lotta nothing in this world !!!!

  2. kernel32.dll is a WIndows system DLL. Seems there is something going on in your system. thought about re-loading your system from scratch?

I got that error a lot when running Win98SE, pain in the arse, until I installed WinXP Pro from scratch

Maybe it was my set-up, but I needed to upgrade, the stability of WinXP is better and faster than Win98SE as well, I've found anyway

Also, you could try the latest MainConcept MPEG Encoder 1.4, it leaves TMPGenc standing for speed

I'll admit though, TMPGenc does look better in the quality of output, or is that just down to it taking so damn long to encode in VBR, that it looks better

MCE 1.4 is fairly cheap for what is provides, compared to other MPEG encoders, and for a software encoder is very, very fast

You can encode a 90 minute movie, in VCD format, using CBR in less than 20-30 minutes, even in VBR mode, after fiddling with the quality settings, it still only takes about 2-3 times less than TMPGenc Plus in VBR mode

Worth a look, and is now a lot better, not just a minor bugfix, but with new features that make it worth shelling out the cash for

wow thanks, I'll give the demo a try......a bit pricey though at $150???

Still if it works, I don't mind shelling out. TMPGenc is good, and it used to work ok....thats why I think its my system....maybe i should just pay out and have XP installed instead. At first I thought it may be some of the video files, cos a lot of them are now fake, and there are so many different formats out there that I still get a little confused (nothing, i repeat NOTHING to do with being a woman!!!!!).....hahahaha....

Anyway the demo download is finished and i'll give it a go......back soon
