converting m1v to divx

i got a video in m1v format. i need it in divx format. please suggest me free tools to convert it.

Use virtualdubmpeg2 or the virtualdubmpeg2plugin, http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/stable/index.html

Or convert to avi xvid with xmedia recode. It works as fine as divx.

while using virtualdubmpeg2 again i am getting similar error. but in xmedia recode the output is only audio. video is not there .

Post the details from the m1v/mpeg2. Use mediainfo, open file, view->text and paste and copy.

MediaInfo should be giving you much more information that that. For example:

In all likelihood your file isn't really an M1V (MPEG 1 video elementary stream). MediaInfo is very good about figuring out what the real container and codecs are and reporting details. I took a RAR file and renamed it .M1V -- MediaInfo then gave an abbreviated report like in your post.

Also, is your MediaInfo up to date?

ya it is. i tried to cut a part video and upload as a sample, but unable to cut the video using ultra video cutter. what to do ???

Try Mpg2Cut2 to extract a segment.

It's a video file with xvid video and mp3 audio. First make an copy of the m1v. Then try open it with latest VLC and it will try repair it, you can also use vlc to reconvert it another format under File->Convert.

In VLC File->Convert/Save. Add file. Click Convert/Save at bottom. Set Destination file. Start. Click Repair.

Did you work with the sample or the entire file? Maybe the entire file is even more corrupt.

i worked with same sample only. for me the output is bad, but yours is perfect output.

I've never seen a MPEG 1 elementary stream used like this before.

I don't know if this will work the the full file, but I used a hex editor to cut out the M1V header:



(Cut the highlighted section.) That left the standard AVI header at the start of the file (starts with "RIFF"). Then I renamed the file .AVI instead of .M1V. I was able to play the resulting file with several media players and open it for editing with VirtualDub.
