  1. I fixin' ta get a new dvd writer (sony 510A) and i was wondering which would be best, i've searched the fourm and seen that both brands seems to do the job well. I've bought Apple b/4 and had some good times, but the only reason i bring this up is b/c Fry's seems to only carry the 2X apple discs. I've heard that it 's sometimes possible to burn a 2X at 4X speeds, If the apple discs can do this that what i'm going with.

  2. I would recommend the Fuji discs. To me, they appear to be "sturdier." The manufacturing quality seems better than Apple. Fuji discs feel more "solid" if that makes sense. Although, I do have a box of Apple 4x discs (which I bought from the Fry's here in Vegas).

I have a Sony DRU500AX with firmware 2.0c and it does burn Apple 4x discs at 4x. I don't think you can burn a 2x disc at 4x without changing your firmware. I could be wrong though? I know I'm not touching my firmware because the burner does what is supposed to do. Everyone here says "don't fix what isn't broken" and I agree.

Not trying to patronize you nor insult your intelligence, but cheaper sometimes really means cheaper (as in build quality and longetivity). Saving a few dollars now may cost you more in the long run (unwatchable DVDRs).

*I've used Apple 2x discs and have only been able to burn them at 2x max. Maybe someone is aware of a trick?
