  1. Hi,

Just started burning dvd's with my new sony laptop, using DVDshrink 2.3 with anydvd running in the background and burning the end result using Nero 6 on to a Imation DVD+R disc.

This system seems to work for me allthough I've only done about 5 films, the problem is Imation DVD+R's cost a fortune, if you can afford them then I recommend them for vaio laptops.

But I can't afford them, so has anyone found a good cheap dvd+r disc that works in this laptop with this dual drive, the sony DW-U50A.

Also is there any way of increasing the speed of the drive up to 4x, I'm aware this is possible in other sony drives using a program from sony but never heard about it for their laptops.

And finally my friend and I are having a bit of an argument about the application of DVD+R disc's. I thought they were designed for data storage primarily and are less compatable than DVD-R, but he says they were designed primarily for video storage and are more compatable than DVD-R, its coming to blows, anyone?

    Cheers

You should look at the whole picture. The burner you have now, the cost of media, and the player it will be played on.

The + vs. - question should be banned. You will get two different answers, from 100 people. Dual format is probably the safest burner to buy. Test both formats on your DVD players, then decide. If the player goes south, take a backup to the store, and test the backups before you buy.
