I use Pinnacle - Studio DV to make my movie. At the end, I save the movie as project file in Studio DV menu.
After, I want to create SVCD of my movie, but Studio DV is VERY BAD doing this conversion.
I prefer the TMPGeng software; it is free and much better than costly Pinnacle...
To use TMPGeng, I'm forced to create 2nd .avi file from project file in Studio DV. This is extra job for hard disk and timing consume.
Is someone using better process to create SVCD out of DV, taking in account the intermediary process of movie making (add effects, music, or cut some parts)?
Tks in advance for your help.

I use Adobe Premiere with the Avi Synth plug-in. This way you don't need an extra avi file. This saves a lot of time and disk space.
See the tutorials on:
http://www.vcdhelp.com/premiereavisynth.htm
You can download Avi Synth via the tools section of vcdhelp.
I'm not sure if StudioDV can communicate with Avi Synth. -
I used Pinnacle Studio DV too.
A couple things:
1) AVI file captured by Studio DV is recognized by Adobe Premier
2) once the video is editing by Studio DV and save as an .SDV file, the .SDV file is not recognized by Adobe
3) Studio DV creates MPEG/MPEG-2 with horrible quality (I still wonder why they ever support it to begin with, I check Pinnacle forum and almost everyone suggest to use TMPGEnc instead, incl. their tech support !!!)
This is what I generally do with StudioDV
1a) save edited movie to AVI file if this is a relative short clip ( <= 5 mins) and if I do not care to keep it
OR
1b) save video to my digital camcorder again. This way, I have my edited movie on digital tape (as master copy). Then I delete all the AVI files related to this movie. Then recapture the master tape video again. This way, I have the finished movie, not the un-edited version.
2) use TMPGEnc to encode the AVI file
It would be nice if Studio DV can frame serve to TMPEnc but I know I am simply dreaming here.
