I need your advise. It might be not strictly a DVD related topic but a DVD is an option as well.

I have a project in Premiere to be exported. It's a 5 mins long video clip. It's resolution is 320x240 with 30 fps. I'll save it as a pure AVI but the dilema shows up when I want to compress it. I want to be able to watch it on stand-alone systems as well as on computers. The resolution of a frame forces me to use VCD format but I would like to have it compressed in better quality then MPEG-1.

So the question is - Can I burn it as miniDVD (no dvd burner - only cd-rw)? What DVD authoring software to use to create such a cd?

    Thanks for advice.

You might try encoding it to SVCD standards 480 x 480
at around 2500 bps and see what it looks like. Wont take long
for a 5 min clip. The player will fix the aspect ratio

It all depends on the capability of the standalone(s) you intend to use.

(BTW, the reolution and framerate are not DVD compliant, you should resize to 352*240 and change the FR to 29.97fps, assuming NTSC).

I would reccomend an XVCD. i.e. VCD but a higher bitrate to help increase quality. Just keep encoding at higher bitrates until you find the level where it won't play properly, then back down one step. (use CDRW for cost effective testing!).

If you want it to play on a wide range of standalone players, stick to VCD specs and accept the quality, or maybe SVCD for higer quality, but slightly fewer players are compatible.

Very few stanadlones will play mini-DVD.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks guys for help.

I'll try SVCD and XVCD formats since VCD has poor audio quality.

VCD audio is 441.khz, Mp2, at 224kbits, should be good enough for most things, maybe your encoding/conversion process for the audio isn't helping here?

Hmm.. Once I did conversion but it came out bad. But it was from mpeg1 to wmv. I guess audio from a WAV file (ripped of a CD) will come out good. I'll try.

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
