You can try to load the avi-file into a sound editing programme like goldwave. Then save it as PCM-WAV-file and add/reencode it to the video stream in VirtualDub. If the error message of VirtualDub only happens at a specific frame within the avi file and you are able first to load the file then you can also using the direct stream copy modes both for video and audio to save the audio track in a WAV-file. This WAV-file will still contain the faulty part. After producing a WAV-file with the audio-track this file still contains the original audio-compression format with a WAV-header. So if this audio-compression-format was MP3 or MPEG II Layer I or II and not AC3 (dolby-digital), you should rename the file to a MP3-extention. With the freeware programme MPEGSuite ( http://ec2000/xperiment.net/ ) you can convert it to PCM-WAV-audio-format. As the audio-decoder within this programme is very forgiving in the past I usually was able to heal any audio-format-errors by this method. After production of the PCM-WAV-file you can proceed as given above.

    Good Luck
