  1. Hey wassup guys !!

I've been checkin out laptops for a while and have decided its time to get one. but i want to make sure i'm getting my moneys worth!!

    I need a fast processor.....basically the best.

    The Sony PCG-GRT716S seems great!
P4 2.8GHz, 512 DDR Ram, 60Gig hard drive 16" screen, DVDRW drive, and nVidea graphics card.
The best i have seen this for is £1550. Thats a hell of alot of money for me, and was hoping if anyone knows of a better price or a laptops with similar specs for cheaper.

If anyone can give me some good advice or point me in the right dircetion, i would greatly appreciate it.

    thanks again for any help

  2. I can't recommend a specific model as I do not own a notebook, but I like the IBM thinkpads. However, they tend to be a bit more money.

Is that sony one of the slim models with the CD dock? I can't stand lugging around some 7 pound (3.5kg) monster. Give me one of Toshiba's new Portege tablet PC's, or the slim Sony, so that I can leave the heavy parts behind when I don't need them.

I like the Sony laptops a lot. Not only are they some of the smallest and lightest but they also have a host of onboard features. The one that I looked at recently (not sure of the model) had G wireless built in, onboard USB2.0 and FireWire, and quite a long battery life. I'd really love on of these for working with video out in the field. Onboard FireWire is a really nice feature.

    hassali,

do you really need a protable machine with specs that high? I would personally buy something small light and low power (like 600mhz or so) to do boring work things/web browsing/emailing while on the move, and the extra £1000 will get you a dam kick-ass desktop system (better then the laptop specs you asked about)

    ECS I-buddie

Something like that would be ideal for university work, and it's only £405 ! that's £1100 left for a P4 or Athlon desktop, or you could hold onto the money and get an Athlon 64 in just a couple of months!

With that transmeta processor that thing should run forever on it's battery.
